Do human beings ever realize life while they are living it? From Emily in Our Town

We all have a longing to "realize life while we live it"

Matthew 7:13-14-Our longings are ultimately for restoration
Proverbs 13:12 (tree of life-mentioned 3 times in Scripture)
John 4:13
Colossians 1:18; Hebrews 12:23; 1 Timothy 6:12
John 14:6-way-doing; truth-thinking; life-being (Part A & B)-Jesus didn't say pick two of three

  • Way without Life-suffocating legalism, sub-cultural behavioral codes, works-based action, empty ritual (Matthew 23:27-28)
  • Truth without Life-meaningless talk, foolish, unprofitable arguments, quarreling about words, judgmental tool (John 5:39-40)
  • Way with Life-biblical obedience, healthy, God-glorifying action, Life-demonstrating & life-giving behavior
  • Truth with Life-doctrine that illuminates and liberates, written word that leads to life
Eternal Life is
  1. Not synonymous with heaven
  2. Quality as well as Quantity
  3. Present Tense (not just future)-John 5:24
  4. Both a status and experience-Ephesians 2:4-5; Romans 5:17-18
  5. Rooted in an intimate relationship with God-John 17:3
  6. Core of the gospel
  7. Central to the early church's message

Sermon Notes "Plans" based on Acts 10:24-48

Introduction: I would like you to think about the word “plans”. Write down on your bulletin some plans you have for: this week, summer, your future, etc.   I am a planner so I love to know what is going to happen.   Yet we also need to keep in mind a Scripture from Proverbs 19:21 “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.” We are going to see from the story of Peter and Cornelius, two great leaders who had plans yet God had a different plan and purpose for them and for others. Prepared- vs. 24-29 ·          Vs. 23-24-Peter and Cornelius have visions (10:1-23) o    Peter is told not to call common what God has made clean (15).
