Voddie Baucham at D6 2011

Voddie Baucham is up and talking about the culture war.

Baucham said the culture war began in Genesis 3.

The central issue is the Word of God vs. Word of Man.

What happened to marriage?

Genesis 2:18-It is not good for the man to be alone. Some have been gifted supernaturally to be single. Notice what is next-Adam is told to name the animals.

His response when someone asks "Is the Bible literal?" His response, "where I am supposed to".
  • Adam did not name every genus and species
  • The world would only have contained a representative sampling of the animals we know currently (i.e. the cat or the dog)
  • Adam named categories of animals.
Theological Issues
  • Adam has no concept of alone
  • Adam has no concept of need
  • Thus, God demonstrates here that marriage is his idea; not man's.
Single people-If God can find Adam a wife, when he was the only human being, he can find you someone too.

God Gives Marriage Its Purpose
  • Procreation-Be fruitful & multiply, involves bearing and training children, spreading the image of God throughout the earth
  • Illustration-physical model of a spiritual relationship, A triune representation of the triune God, earthly picture of relationship between Christ and the church
  • Sanctification-Active sanctification & Passive Sanctification
After the Fall
  • Roles are reversed (God, Man, Woman, Creation)
  • Man is alienated from God
  • Offenders are cursed (The Serpent and the Seed-1 John 3:12, Revelation 12:3-4, The Woman, The Man, Creation)
What does this War look like?
  • Serpent-Abortion, Murder
  • Woman-feminism
  • Man-physical death, laziness, leadership vacuum, passivity in men, delayed marriage, extended childhood, absenteeism
What's the answer?
  • The gospel
  • Rest of Genesis-who is the promised seed? child of Sarah/Hagar, Jacob/Esau, 12 brothers
  • The Promised Redeemer-Our Only Hope for Victory in the Culture War
  • Do not fight the shiny balloons, but go to the root.
Closing Word-The gospel is sufficient
