The Fragrance of Him

Today, I had a great meeting with a group of people. They were sharing their hearts and desires for outreach as a believer and the church. They had all been prompted by the Holy Spirit to pray about how to get more involved and more intentional about sharing their faith. It was so refreshing to hear them take the initiative to pray and move forward with this idea without my direct involvement. Don't get me wrong-I enjoy praying and seeking the Lord for creative ways to reach out to my community, yet I was brought into the process for listening and sharing ideas or insights.

Another highlight of this visit was our discussion about not just talking about evangelism, but actually doing it. One of the quotes from Lord Foulgrin's Letters illustrates this point. This is Lord Foulgrin (a demon) speaking, he says, "But don't bother trying to convince him it's bad to evangelize. Let him think it's good, admirable. Just as long as he doesn't actually do it." Several key phrases that were mentioned in our time together were: "meeting people where they are, showing them we care, they will know we are His disciples by our love, and the importance of understanding grace in our own lives and sharing it with others." This visit was a great start to my work week as I can truly see how God is working in their lives and in their areas of influence.

As we closed our time in prayer, I was again encouraged by their desire to do what God would have them do. They also recognize that our power comes not from ourselves but through prayer and the Holy Spirit guiding us. As I prayed I was drawn to a specific passage from 2 Corinthians 2:14. It says, "But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him." May we all be a fragrance for Christ today!
